When should palliative care begin?

Illness and old age affect each pet differently. If you feel your pet no longer has the same spark or has received a terminal diagnosis, the earlier you plan palliation, the more support we can provide. If you are unsure, we can assess your pet’s quality of life and gently discuss what’s best for them.

How do I know if I should consider euthanasia?

This is one of the most difficult decisions a pet owner or family can make. Signs your pet may be suffering include chronic pain, loss of appetite, difficulty breathing, or loss of interest in daily activities. We will help assess your pet’s quality of life and gently discuss what’s best for your pet. While we support you in the process by providing clear and compassionate information, we will not make the decision for you.

What happens during home euthanasia?

We begin by taking the time to talk with you, answering questions and making sure you are comfortable and informed. Your pet will then receive a sedative, enabling them to relax into a deep, peaceful sleep. We will give you as much time and privacy you need. When you are ready, we will administer the euthanasia solution, and your pet will pass gently and painlessly.

Can we stay with our pet during the process?

Absolutely. We encourage you to stay with your pet as long as you wish - before, during, and after. Some families like to hold their pet, others prefer to sit close by. There is no right or wrong way; we will support you through it.

What happens after my pet has passed?

To ease the stress of this difficult time, we can coordinate with Edenhills Pet Cremation services for a private cremation and thoughtful options for the return of ashes. Alternatively, you may choose an at-home burial if preferred. Please note, Edenhills cremation and keepsake services are not included in our costs.
